Kitchen Design Trends 2026: Designer Predictions

09 December 2025 — 1 mins read time

The hardest-working room in the home — and in 2026, the kitchen is set to become even more personal, warm and functional. Made in California, designed in London. We asked our favorite UK designers to share the trends they expect to shape the year ahead.

Natural Woods and Smarter Storage

'For 2026, warm neutrals and natural woods are big. There’s a shift toward treating the kitchen as a room to spend time in no matter the size; it is a place to cook, relax and hang out.

With many kitchens now designed to connect to gardens or outdoor views, we’re gravitating toward finishes that enhance the connection to nature.

Hidden larder units are becoming essential, helping keep worktops clear by neatly storing coffee machines and everyday appliances.'

Multi-Functional and Flexible Spaces

'Kitchens are evolving into multi-functional spaces, with a mix of modern pieces and vintage treasures.

Warm, homey hues of greens, browns and red brick tones add depth.

Flexible lighting that shifts from bright for cooking to soft and inviting for dinners and relaxing afternoons with a cup of tea'.

Color and Warmth

‘I like to inject warmth into all my projects. For me the kitchen, as it’s the heart of the home, is essential. I love the variety of colors that are available to enhance the Plykea kitchen cabinetry.

My prediction for 2026 is more colors from nature, deep plums, rich greens and deep yellows. All working beautifully with the wooden inset handles and creating a timeless feel.’

Warmer Neutrals With Bold Accent Shades

‘I'm seeing kitchens lean more into color and natural materials and expect to see this continue into 2026. Clients inclined towards neutrals are going towards warmer shades or adding a splash of a stronger color like coral or deep olive on an island or single unit.

Bolder colorways like caramels and earthy greens are gaining momentum.

There's quite a 70/80s feel both in colors and natural materials - breaking away from classic oak, pine has a nostalgic feel but also a lovely, rustic simplicity and I'm seeing a move towards richer more interesting timbers.'

Janet Hanson - Studio Lunet

Natural, Sophisticated Palettes

‘In 2026, we’ll see a lean towards a more natural, grounded warmth and subtle sophistication.

Palettes will include soft shades of sage paired with neutral mushroom; dusty blues warmed up with classic greige; and clay reds mixed with soft peach tones - all beautifully enhanced by Plykea’s textural natural plywood.’

Materials and Textures

‘In 2026, I see metal becoming a material in its own right. Stainless steel moves beyond hardware and into full splashbacks and plinths.

The key is contrast: cooler metals sit beautifully against textured warm walls and rich wood cabinetry, creating a look that feels crafted and contemporary rather than cold or industrial.’
